ok i have to take my tranny out in my 97 f 150 4x4
any tips or words of wisdom?

I see from a previous post you have an automatic. Buy or rent a special tranny jack, you don't need anything fancy. I have one that raises and lowers by using a ratchet, sure beats manhandling it. You can probably manhandle the transfer case. I would get a manual, it will point out any specific tricks. If you have plenty of hand tools you will be good to go.
