4WD Question

This may sound foolish but this is my first 4WD and I am not sure if this is normal. I was trying new tires and rims today and come across something that worried me a little. I was putting the passenger side wheel backon, went to spin it and it was really hard to turn. I crawled under the truck and noticed the CV joints and half shaft was turning. The truck was on stands, in park, parking brake on and only in 2WD

Is this normal or is something not right? The 4WD is working fine because I used it yesterday.

The 04 up front hubs have a default of locked. When you start your engine and have it in 2wd, vacuum unlocks the hubs. What you saw was normal. If you had started th truck, they would not have turned with the wheel.

Thanks for the reply Kingfish! So are you saying both sides should be locked while the engine is not running? I ask because it was only the passenger side that was locked, the drivers side spun freely. Kinda freaked me out, thought I would have to wait to do the lift this coming weekend or at least until I get the dealer to fix it.

Should be both sides. The IWE (hub) is whats locked, so the half-shafts should turn on both engine off, and neither should turn engine on in 2wd. If one isn't turning engine off, you might want to have it checked.
