Tranny temp question

I recently had my tranny temp gauge installed. It's mounted right into the side of the transmission. So far my temperatures range from 150-165 depending on where I'm driving, but I haven't seen it go above 165. I was just curious as to what normal temperatures are when driving normal, and what max temperature I should not exceed.

Thanks.

During normal driving around here my tranny temps stay in the 150-160 range, but that is monitored by my Edge Evolution, so I don't know if the sensor is in the same place as you installed yours. The highest I have gotten my temps are 192 and that was in some really good hills towing my Jeep and heavy duty trailer. About 6000#. It was also 95 degrees that day also.

A kit was used by the place that installed it. It's right in the side of the transmission in a pre-drilled place from the factory.

Sounds like my temperatures are good then.

Your temps are fine. Your trans will last a long time at those temps. 230 is where the oil really starts to break down and damage comes rapidly. Try to keep it below 210 when towing.

NOPE. Too high ...

From TCCoA's web site:

" And since fluid life is cut in half for every 25 degrees increase in temp about about 170, it's best to know the hottest fluid."

If your seeing those temps consistently, you need additional cooling ASAP !

Cheers

My sending unit is screwed into a fitting factory pressure port on the driver's side of the tranny. Sounds like the same place as yours. My temps routinely are in the 150 range in the winter time but it takes many miles for the temp to even register in the winter. In the summer, towing a 5,600 lb trailer with a Jeep on it the temps will hit 190 on hot days. I run Amsoil fluid and have the factory tow package which includes a tranny cooler. I also have a Banks Trans Command. Without a trailer 180 is not uncommon.

I don't think above 170 is that bad. Hell, my truck runs 165 a lot without towing anything. I would think going over 200 is where it would start to hurt you.
