Stock Gear question

Ok i have a 05 xlt 4x4 4.6l with the 3.55 Non Ls

I will be gettting some 35's soon and i am wodering if it would be cheaper to find a LS rear end and TF case off another f-150, or to regear what i have and maybe make it LS?? Im sorry if this is a dumb question but i have no clue about this stuff..

All i do know if that it sucks when im with my buddy in his z71 and is spinning two 33 mudders with everything stock and i have a hard time spinning my one 31.. and with 35's il have a hard time spinning the "one" in the sand nevermind on pavement

gears

Although my '04 is 4x2, I can tell you it will be cheaper and less frustrating just to get new gears. Currently I have 3.55:1 gears also, but with 5.4L. I'm looking at some 4.10's, cost from ford is ~$210 a set. check out my pics.

Yeah, he can regear for better power with those tires, but he still needs LS or what's the point? I just traded out the whole rear axle assy for my truck- cost $800 from a junk yard. You could pick the gears you want (if they have them) plus LS and have your rear end taken care of, only to have to regear your front. Or, you could just pay to regear both front and rear, and add an aftermarket LS or Locker. Since you're going through all the trouble anyway, I would go with an electric locker from auburn or eaton, since you get the best of both worlds there. If cash were no option, I would regear and put a e-locker in it, although it is not too hard to piecemeal what you need from junkyards.

As far as transfer case...??? I dont think you need another one if your 4x4 works alright.

ya i would like a LS , im not a big fan of the "one wheel peel" so best bet would to be to look for a LS rear end, and just make sure the gears are the same as the TF case or regear everything? Right?

You would want to make sure that the front gears match the rear differential gear ratio of the new rear end (assuming you are going that route, not just adding in an aftermarket LS or locker) ie: 3.55, 3.73, etc... the front will be the same as the rear (stock). The transfer case is completely irrelavent. All it does is put power to the front wheels, it does not matter what gearing it has (as far as matching the front to rear goes). What I was getting at in my earlier post, is that say you want 3.73 gears, because you now have something higher... you could find a complete rear axle assy with 3.73 gears, and a factory LS installed. (I got this for about $800). Next, you would have to go out and buy 3.73 gears for your front differential to make them match the rear. The only reason I brought this option up, is that it may be alot cheaper to buy the rear axle assy whole, rather than buy new gears, and a LS.
