have 97 v6 explorer that stalls in drive...but wait, drives well in reverse. fluid is very dirty but not burnt . vehicle has done approx. 170kms. stall speed in reverse is approx 2200 rpm. trans is now in bits on bench, no burnt friction linings.....perhaps stuck valves in valve body?

I'd suggest www.therangerstation.com for a better source of info on your trans. They arn't used in our trucks and myself don't specifically know much about them.
