Question jerking in 4x4 low

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. Was pulling some tree stumps to a burn pile( yes a dozer dug them up, my little truck didn't pull them up) pulled one for about 20 feet in 4x4 low, backed up to shorten the chain and when I started pulling again it was like the teeth on the ring gear was missing every other one. stopped and switched it to 4x4 high and it did the same thing, had to finish pulling it with my John Deere lawn tractor. (it pulled it fine) I have the 3:55 rear and am at a loss for what could have caused this, rear end is full, truck was just serviced at ford. could it be missing the additive for the limited slip? any thoughts would be appreciated.

Are the tires spinning, or is something internal slipping?

it is an 05 super crew. and no tire spin, on fairly flat ground, in a straight line, tried to get it too duplicate what it did on a hill, ( was not pulling anything) but i could not get it to do it again. I am going to hook up my trailer and put a couple thousand pounds on it and see if it does it, this should be more weight than the stump but( trailer has wheels the stump didn't ) maybe the added weight will offset the rolling of the trailer. will let ya know. thanks for the interest.

Are the front ends in the 05's made like the ones in my '97 if so no hubs it made like a front wheel drive might check and see if the shafts are even turning or if its the transfer case?

No. Completely different setup.

Huh? Torque management? Riiight.....

As for the original question, I'm not completely clear about what it was doing. I don't understand what you mean by it felt like the ring gear was missing every other tooth? Is it possible that it was just the stump dragging, digging in, then dragging, then digging in, etc? It may have felt weird, but it may have just been the stump dragging....

If the hub(s) had unlocked, you would have been back in 2wd and would have known it. I'm quite sure that's not the problem.
