E4od Crazyness!

Hey, Had this problem like 5 times now, it's getting crazy. Okay, here's the deal. 1994 F-150, 351, E4OD 2wd. Trans was shaking up a storm, shuddering and just SLAMMING into gear. Changed the fluid, then All of a sudden Park became drive, reverse became neutral, all other gears ok. Checked linkage, even disconnected it, moved it by hand. Same deal. So I put a used trans in it. Exact same thing, except even worse. Get ANOTHER trans, Try it again. SAME thing. Scan tool tells me truck is reading the gears properly (Park to Park, Neutral to neutral, etc) If you try to rev the truck in park, It's like your doing a brake torque, like it's working against itself. Reverse goes forward, Drive the same. The weird thing is....When in the air, the truck GOES INTO REVERSE PROPERLY! I can't have had like 3 bad trannies now, could I? Someone please help this poor soul!

Does anyone think this could be a bad torque converter?

No, there's no way it could be the torque converter. It sounds like something has broken in the shifter linkage, probably in the steering column.

Hmmm, interesting thought. Wouldn't the symptom go away if I disconnected the linkage at the tranny and moved it by hand? It still did the same thing when I did that. I'm not really sure where to go next. Thanks for the reply!

There may be a wiring problem. If the wrong solenoids are being turned on at the wrong time you will have all sorts of problems.

It seems to me that God doesn't want that truck to live anymore, but it's possible I'm wrong. Either way, good luck

haha, it seems to me like God wants it gone too. Thing is, I've done WAYYYY to much work to this thing to just get rid of it. Tranny was SUPPOSED to be that last thing, then this truck was essentialy brand new. I've ordered a vehicle speed sensor, as a friend at work told me to try that. Other than that, I'm going to be putting another converter into it, and see what happens. Thanks guys!
