Basic E4OD Info

Hi I'm new to this website and somewhat of an amateur at working on trucks. I just bought a 95 F150 w/ 4wd and with an E4OD tranny and i wanted to change the fluid. What i need to know is what type of ATF it takes, how many qts, and what seals the pan to the tranny. I was thinking of using Redline but i wasnt sure which one to use. Any help is appreciated.

Any fluid that meets the Ford spec portion of an off-the-shelf Mercon/Dexron III" will work fine. According to Ford, you can now also use Mercon V. TOTAL system fluid capacity is right around 4 gallons (dry system).

There is a gasket between the pan and the tranny body. By 97, it was a re-usable gasket of excellent quality and does not require replacement when the pan is dropped for service. Since you have no history on whether that type of gasket is still present, I'd suggest getting a filter kit that includes a new gasket.
