I'm assuming you are asking what "OE" means? If so, it is 'original equipment.' All of the lubes are considered OE straight from the factory. If you are going to stick with the same kind, then dirtyd0g means to stick with the MotorCraft brand of lubes (OE). The problem I have with any semisynthetic is cost for what you get.

At best, a 'blend' is 20% synthetic from what I've read but standards have a minimum of only 10% synthetic to be considered a blend. BUT, the cost in some cases is not worth it. You will see many 'blends', including Motorcraft where the cost is roughly 50-60+% higher than a dino counterpart, so you'd be getting robbed compared to going with a full synthetic. Why not pay another $1/quart and get a full synthetic Mercon V spec lube?

I get motorcraft merconV for $3.29 a quart straight from ford dealers.
On the transfer case I fully agree synthetic fluids are great. I only use ford
75w-140 in traction lock ford differentials as well.

ohh so thats what a blend is, when that guy said he uses motorcraft blend from ford i thought it was full synthetic i didnt know it was only part synthetic. so i guess i stand by my using of 10w30 lol. when it comes to this oil stuff i dont mind paying an extra dollar or even 2 dollars because you dont change it that often, and im gonna be keeping this truck for a long long long time to come. So this Mercon V full synthetic, is that the automatic tranny fluid i should use when its time to replace it? and i just go right to my ford dealer and ask them?

You can. I do not know if Ford/Motorcraft offers a full synthetic Mercon V. But the regular ATF Mercon V is a blend . Amsoil, RP, Redline, Mobil, Castrol, and a bunch of others have purchased the Ford Mercon V formulation so they can make their own Mercon V ATF which meets Ford Mercon V properties. Any will work, and no dealer can void any warranty if you use any Mercon V approved ATF.

On the Motorcraft website, I do not see that they make a full synthetic Mercon V ATF, so I just called the dealer and they said they do-it is new. However, it is $17.95 per quart. Call them yourself: King's Ford, Cincinnati, Ohio: 513-683-0220 and ask for parts. I repeated my question and they said it is MERCON V, not just mercon. I don't know about you but I'd rather pay for Amsoil, RP, Mobil, Redline, Neo, etc., and pay between $8 and $11 per quart for a full synthetic ATF Mercon V.

Remember, Mercon V is a formulation developed by Ford, not a brand. In 1997 Ford introduced the new Mercon V (Mercon 5 ) (MV) transmission fluid. Mercon V was designed to improve friction material stability, prevent torque converter clutch chatter and lower overall operating temperature, including shift temperature. Ford units that require Mercon V are part of an integral transmission/transmission fluid calibration package.

Other oil and lube companies purchasing "Mercon V" from Ford realized that it was very expensive. But they gained the licenses to sell their own products that met Ford Mercon V specs.

Ford/Motorcraft brand Mercon V ATF: $4.17/quart
Ford/Motorcraft brand Full synthetic Mercon V ATF: $17.95/quart.

Ford/Motorcraft brand synthetics are HIGH DOLLAR lubes. Even their gear lubes are almost $20 per quart as where Amsoil, RP, Redline, are all around $10-12. I have a tough time believing that Motorcraft is THAT much better to justify that kind of cost difference.

It will always be debated, this whole synthetic thing, I never see it going to rest, but if it is not a good thing, then why is Motorcraft now offering a full synthetic ATF mercon V as well?

tranny fluid can get very hot. WearCheck will tell you that Mobil is NOT as good as some of the other synthetics already mentioned.

Several lubricant analysis labs stated to me that Mobil would be the last they'd use. Despite its popularity, its not the magic they claim it is. Mobil is certainly readily available and will work. I prefer Amsoil or Royal Purple. I'd use either without hesitation.
