Newbie here...

Hi all. Awesome website. I've had my truck for just over a year. 00' F150 XLT Supercab, 6" Fabtech lift with 37x12.50 Mudders. 5.4 Triton with 4:56 gears. I noticed it has a tranny cooler and power steering cooler. I'm getting it ready to start towing my drag car to the track. I believe it has the 4R100 transmission in it.

The trailer weighs 2,000lbs and the car weighs right in at 3,500 lbs. I tried to find the towing capacity of the F150, but I haven't been too successful. My concern is if the tranny is up to the task. Do you guys feel that Ford equipped the tranny with a big enough pan and cooler from the factory, or should I try to find a bigger tranmission pan with fins and an even bigger tranny cooler?

Thanks for your help.

Howdy and welcome. Looky on the door jam sticker. E is the 4R100, U is the 4R70w.

Thats not that big of a load and the 150 will handle it easily with that gearing and tire size.

Id invest in a temp gauge and see if you need to beef the cooling from those numbers.

Oops. Looks like I have the 4R70W. I have a "U" on the door jam. Is that a better transmission? I'll go ahead and install a temp gauge and see where it runs at normally. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate any input.

4r70w is lighter duty than the 4r100 but by no means crap

youll be fine towing something that light, my buddy's supercab 5.4 towed my buddy's supercrew easily

Not crap, but not as beefy as the 4R100. The 70 has its geans from the AOD of the 80s. The 100 is based off the C6 from way back when.
