94 Lightning trans problem
94 Lightning trans problem
OK guys hopefully someone here can lead me in the right direction. A little history. When I first bought my truck it had a junkyard tranny in it that would slip whenever I got on it. I also received another trans that was suppose to have been built by Level 10 but it had a broken shaft inside. I took that trans to a local shop who pulled it apart and replaced the shaft. They said everything else looked brand new so they didn't replace anything else and installed it in my truck. The next day after it sat for a while the problems started. When I start it up and put it in gear nothing happens. Doesn't matter drive or reverse nothing. While in gear if I bring the RPMs to about 2000 after a minute the truck will start to creep. During about a mile of this the trans will slowly start to respond better until it is working normally. It will stay that way until the truck sits still for longer than an hour. I have had it back to the same shop who has diagnosed it first as a bad torque converter then a bad accumulator body. They said the one in it was for a 4R100. So here is what has been done so far:
Replace the converter. Now has a PI 2600 stall.
Replace the accumulator body with a stock unit.
Checked fluid hot and cold to make sure the converter isn't draining. Done by shop.
Nothing seems to have worked and now due to the abuse the trans is starting to slip. Any ideas besides taking it to another shop. I have a bad taste now towards tranny shops so I want to see if I can find it myself. A new trans is in the future just not the immediate future. Thanks and sorry it's so long.
