5 speed transmission question

About a month or so ago I bought a '90 F150 with the M5OD transmission in it. It has just over 100,000 miles on it and I've been wondering how long these tranny's are known to last.. also, how long do the clutches normally last in these as well?

I've heard of some clutches lasting up to 200+k miles if not abused (ie. riding the clutch). I would ponder to say the tranny itself would last just as long, if not longer if maintained properly. It all depends on the driver and how well it was maintained. Some clutches go sooner, but it's usually due to neglect and severe abuse

1990 F150

I own a 1990 F150 with the M5OD transmission. AT 160,000 I replaced the front and rear seals in the transmission and replaced the clutch. The tranny will probably go another 160K!

the tranny can go along ways, my dad has a 95 f150 with 285k on it. the slave cylinder is another story, it was replaced at 200k and then again at 280k. the mechanic said that once the factory slave cylinder goes, no other will last as long, even if its another factory one or aftermarket.

just a head up on what might happen, good luck.

My dad has 425,000 on his...a few clutches and slaves but the tranny is virtually stock (changed a shift fork pin at about 150,000 and input shaft bearing at 350,000).
