4R70W Capacity, in Pan and TC
I have a 2001 SuperCrew, 5.4, 4x4, 4R70W transmission. I just dropped the pan and drained the TC. I have a torque converter drain plug, but no drain plug on the pan. It took 11.75 quarts of Mercon V to fill it back to normal. Just a little info for people who are looking to do this. The manual says it has a 13.9 quart capacity. So 2.15 quarts stayed in the tranny cooler, lines, and valve body. Hope this helps someone.

Mine took about 11 1/2. I drained just a tick more than 11 out of it, probably right up to 11 1/2 if I could have measured the stuff that didn't make it in the drain pan. I poured the fluid out of my drain pan into some 1 gallon bottles to get an idea of how much to put back in.
By the way, a large piece of cardboard was a huge help in keeping my garage floor clean. My truck was on ramps so as I undid the pan bolts I had a heck of a leak out of the back of the pan and onto the crossmember, some of this missed the drain pan.

I really loved the shower of tranny fluid. I had two drain pans and a tarp down, so no big mess. Also I started loosening the bolts in the front and worked my way back. I let alot dribble out before I removed the rest of the bolts.
