Thumbs up 2-3 delayed shift -new cause

high mileage 97 F150 devloped the delayed 2-3 shift problem. got the parts and pulled off the tranny pan and valve body expecting to find a broken spring or a worn accumulator piston. found neither- the tip of the weird retainer that looks like an upside sombrero was pounded flat from hitting the steel plate on the valve body. it looked just like it had been deliberately hammered and probably was 1/8" shorter than the new part. replaced the piston spring and retainer along with the 1-2 accumulator piston, srings and seal. shifts perfectly
