M5R2 Shift Fork

HELP! How do I remove the shift fork (3-4) from a M5R2 transmission. I have removed the pin holding the fork in, but the rod doesn't come out, it seem that there are factory 'cast-in' retainers put there (in the shifter housing) to prevent the rods from falling (or vibrating) out. I have googled this and even called a transmsion shop, and no-one can help.

I thought this would be an easy job, but I have been working on it for several hours.

Thanks.

Ken,

You may want to ask this question on www.sccoa.com. Its a supercoupe website and there manuals are a m5r2, and I'm sure someone could help you out really quick.

Been to that site many a times myself to figure out problems/upgrades with my t-bird.

Hope that helps you out.

A quick look at a shop manual will help. Did you remove the pins in the shift gates? Did you depress the interlock pins in the in the shift rail while pushing it rearward?

How do you push in the pin in order to slide back the rod?

Use the spring pin hole in the shift rail to help pull it back. When you remove the spring pin in the shift fork there is a hole in the rail. Use a nail that fits in the hole and pull back on the rail. There is a spring and ball that will be coming out when you pull back on the rain. Be sure to catch and put them back in the same rail that they come out of.
