tranny upgrades

I got a E4OD tranny. Is there any upgrades for that tranny or is there a better tranny to go with for towing and mpg? What should I do upgrade it or go up grade to a better tranny?

Just upgrade your existing tranny. Examples - Trans Cooler, Bigger Transmission Pan and Factory Tech Valve Body From Troyer Performance.

Most 97 f-150's I have seen have the 4r70w transmission. Are you sure you have an E4?

I've NEVER seen a truck with a 4.6L and an E4OD. I believe all 4.6L trucks were built with the 4R70W. Adrianspeeder should be along shortly to disagree with me.

Another hint is that the E4OD was never made with a bellhousing that will mate to the modular engines. The 4R100 was, but it's first year was 1998.

Casey_1,
I've got a 97 5.4L that has the E4OD in it. The 5.4L is a modular engine isn't it?

Yes, the 5.4L is a modular, and if you're right, and I suspect you are, I have to retract that last statement.

I am sticking with never have seen a 4.6L with an E4OD.

My 98 Gator has an E4OD behind the 5.4

You can add the valve body and a shift kit, both available from TP. I have just the shift kit and it works wonderfully

Really? What is the door jam sticker code under trans. E is for the heavy duty E4OD and U is for the light duty 4R70w.

Hey how ya doin casey!

E4OD does have the modular bell housing for use behind the 5.4L in 97-98 and 4.6L in the F250LD.

I found out I had the A4OD the hard way. I purchased the transgo reprogrammer kit along with the factory ford upgraded accumulator, springs, and piston. Went to install it today and the pan and valve body were totally different in the directions compared to my tranny. BUMMED!!! Next time I'll make sure what I have before upgrading. Any body interested in the kit with upgraded ford parts? Will fit AODE and 4R70W.

Yeah adrian, its the E code. Kinda funny, with my diablo tune they had the line pressure up so high the front seal started leaking. I was really pissed, and instead of taking it down for a $5 seal I was gonna upgrade to a monsterbox. Then, just as fast as it started, it stopped leaking overnight. Hasn't leaked in over a week and is full.
