A different kind of problem.
A different kind of problem.
Naturally it was pouring down rain on my way home. I go to push in my clutch and 3/4 of the way down it freezes. Pull into a parking lot and hear a dry scrape coming from my tranny. There I am, under my truck in a puddle of water from the rain...
Everybody keeps asking how to disconnect a hydraulic clutch line. Wish I had that problem.
My question is, why would it pop out? The plastic clip looks beat to death, dont know why. Its gone 10,000 miles since the new clutch. Any help would be great. I hope its as easy as getting a new line.

did you replace the clutch or have someone else do it? if someone else they may have messed up one side of the quick disconnect. I can tell you from experience getting it out the first time is a pain. both sides have to pop back in completely or it could slowly work its way out. When I changed the clutch on an Exploder I had, the plug got beat up pretty bad just trying to get it out.
Do you ever go off road? possibly a small rock or something could have gotten into an access hole and gotten to the plug, not very probable I know, just brainstorming.

When I bought the truck I was told the clutch was bad, it turned out to be the throwout bearing, but I changed them both anyways. Clutch still had alot of life left. I ordered a new hose from a dealership, something like $65. But I dont want to do it twice. Could it be something to do with the slave cyl. and would it be worth my time to change it? I have the old line back on it for now, doesnt sound right every time I clutch. Kind of a dry scraping sound. I might have air in the line maybe? I didnt bleed it, just pumped the **** out of it, and the play in the pedal is in or around where it was before the line came off.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
on a hydraulic clutch, pumping it does nothing, it has to be bled so that is probably why your pedal feels funny. bleeding it should take care of that problem.
have you had any more problems out of your quick disconnect on the slave cylinder line? If you don't put a new line on I would check it every couple of days to make sure it isn't working itself out again. It should have made an audible click when it finally went in. Pull on it and see if you can make it come out without pushing the clips in. could of just been one of those freak things that happens sometimes?
Is your clutch fluid leaking? When my slave cylinder went out the clutch master cylinder had to be filled every day or I wouldn't have any clutch!

Nope theres no leaks. I check the fluid level and connection every day. However, as beat up as the plastic clip is, I couldnt really tell if it clicked. It was seperated from the line and broke so it could come off. I have it in there to take up the slop, but really cant forsee an easy time of removing the line now.
The truck has 192,000+ miles on it and dont know if the slave cyl. was ever replaced. Thats why I'm thinking I might want to change both hose and slave. Might take a bit longer but might save an assache removing the line and pulling the transmission a few months down the road if the slave cyl. dies.

Well thats that. I light scraping sound turned into a really loud scraping sound constantly when the clutch is released in or out of gear.
Out with the old and in with the old, found a used tranny for $75. I'm going to change it this weekend. If this doesnt work, I think I mount a trailer tounge to the front so it will be easier to tow. =-}
Thanks for the help.
