normal operating temperature

What is the normal operating temp. for a 2004 f150 transmission? I dont know which trannmission I have, or if it really makes a difference. Mine is running about 168-169 at 70-80 mph. It just seems a little high compared to everyone elses temps.

Ouch. I see roughly 145* on average and 160* after a couple WOT runs.

Like most questions, it depends.
Where is the temp sender located, in the pan, on the cooler line or a tranny port? On that topic, if the sender is on the line is it upstream or downstream of the tranny cooler? Even what part of the transmission will affect what the temperature reading is. Using the overdrive will usually increase the temp.
When I tow heavy mine goes up to 185 or so, depending on hills and headwind. All of the tranny experts I've talked to think this is ok. Just be careful when you ask them. If you ask a barber if you need a haircut, he'll tell you need one. They're trying to make a living.

Anywhere from 150-220°F is normal. Trans temp is dependant on so many things that giving one normal temperature is just about impossible.

Mine runs high 160's to mid 170's daily under all conditions, but if I run several WOT runs, it'll get to the mid 180's.

I am reading the temp from the stock sensor, where ever that is.

Where is the sensor the OBDII reads?
