which transmission fluid?

Question which transmission fluid?

hello i'm johan from belgium, recently i bought a econoline conversian van from 1994 with a V8 5.8 engine. which fluid i should use for the transmission, i think it should be Mercon or mercon v?

Howdy and welcome! I'm 99% sure you have the heavy duty E4OD tranny which requires Mercon fluid. Do not use Mercon V or any blend of Mercon V. To be sure on the tranny, check the door jam code sticker under trans code. E is the E4OD. Also, if the sticker is missing you can count the pan bolts. The E4OD has 20.

many thanks for the quick responce! i have looked at my door sticker and indeed it is a E40D transmission! so it is mercon whitout -V- i have to use. thank you again, i have no doubt that you are one of the best connes.seurs here on this forum !

Sweet! Reason for not using Mercon V is that it contains friction modifiers for the 4R70w. The C6-E4OD-4R100 lineage are designed to have NO friction modifiers in the fluid.

Any pics of your Ford over there in Belgium? How common are full size American trucks?
