what would be the best way to get all the fluid out? Will I get enough of the fluid out by dropping the pan?

Draining only the pan gets less than half of the fluid. That's not worth the effort. I use this method:

drain plugs

Any reason why the torque convertor cannot be drilled and tapped to use an 1/8 pipe plug? Sure makes it so much easier to drain at home.

For one thing you would throw off the balance. On top of that do you really want metal shavings cerculationg in your transmission.

I wouldn't try it myself, but a tranny shop could do it no problem. If my 4R100 ever has to come out on the diesel I'll have it done.

I just wonder how much the balance would be off, if it would be enough to cause any vibration problems. Dan, I figured that after drilling the hole, the fluid would wash out the cuttings, and then I would try swabbing around the hole to try and clean out any more cuttings. Oh, well,
