B&M drain plug kit question
B&M drain plug kit question
How many people are using a b&m drain plug kit? Have you ever had any problems with it and where did you mount it? I think I am going to install one on my next tranny service in a week or so. Also are there any places that carry them local like advanced or auto zone or do I need to get it online?
I've used them on dozens of vehicles for almost 30 years. Yes, poor installations can cause seepage. The hex on the exterior fitting will gouge and distort the teflon gasket if it is over tightened. I find adding a thin washer prevents this from happening. Put the vehicle on a level surface and find a low, flat spot on the pan. When you remove the pan, check the interior area for clearance. Otherwise, you can install it anywhere. The last one I installed was purchased at AutoZone.

Would it be better to just replace the stock pan with an aftermarket that already has the drain hole? I did this years ago on by Bronco, but haven't checked for something like that on my 05.
Here's my trans plug. I drilled a small (3/16") pilot hole before I dropped the pan. It drained real nice and clean
That looks like a good place to put it. Thats a good idea about tapping it first to let the fluid out.

If you drill the pilot hole first, use a rigid tube over your drill bit that exposes only about 1/4" of the bit. Othewise, when it breaks through to the inside, it may plunge in way too far.
