JET trans-performance kit
JET trans-performance kit
I tow approx 8000 lbs twice a month. I have already done intake and exhaust mods. I am in the process of upgrading rear axle ratio from 3.55 to 3.73 and my XCAL2 is on order. Has anyone used the JET trans-performance kit for their tranny? I know that I can make enough power to tow, I just don't want to fry my transmission in the process.
Do you have a trans temp guage installed? The biggest killer is heat and the temp guage will let you know if you need additional cooling. I tow 6500-7000 with my 02 and I needed more cooling.
I installed this, it's a Derale cooler and all the hoses and fittings needed to install it.

The 355 to 373 is about a 5% lower change, and 355 to 410 is a 10% change, via my simple pocket calculator. I swithched to 410's from 355's for performance and I am happy with the result. I'm not sure I'd pay for just 5% difference. Whatever you decide, you will have to program for the difference in speedo / odo readings.
To your question - a popular trans enhancer around here is the Factory Tech Valve Body, which I highly recommend. I installed mine about five months ago, with the most agressive shift selected, and Troyer refined the tuning of my XCal2 to work with it and provide great shifting. LOL

The reason I went with the 3.73 is that per Ford's tow ratings it gives me an extra 1000 lbs for towing. I also wanted to stick with a ratio that is a factory option for this vehicle so that I wouldn"t have any warranty issues down the line. Would going to one of the high capacity magnetic trans pans offer enough cooling without having to install temperature gauges and probes? I do have the tow package with the separate radiator for the transmission. Also, how aggressive is the shifting with the XCAL on its hardest setting? I want the truck to still be comfortable as a daily driver.
