What type of transmition do I have?
I am getting ready to change the trans fluid in my 2000 Ford f-150 Supercab 4x4 & there are a few different gasket & filter options. My truck says "U" for on the door tag. I saw a link on here before that had all of this info. It told you what all of the letters meant from the transmision to the rear differential. Anybody know where this is or even what kind of transmision I have? Oh yeah, the truck has a 5.4 in it. I have changed the transmision fluid in a Chevy truck before but not in a Ford. Anything I need to know or look out for in dropping the pan & replacing the filter?

The 4R100 is code E and requres Mercon
Make sure you also drain the TC. If you only drain the pan, then your only gonna change about 1/3 of the fluid on that tranny, so drain the TC also.

On your tranny, there should be a rubber cap at the bottom of the bell housing. Pull this off and you will see the TC. Now on yours you may or may not have a drain plug on the TC. To find it you can spin the TC with a large screw driver or turn the crank pulley with a wrench. Might want to mark the TC that way you can see when you come full circle if you do not have a drain plug.
If you have a drain plug, remove it and let it drain out. Go have a few beers or do other stuff as it will take a LONG time. Once its finished draining plug it back up and refill 4-6 qts at a time through the fill tube. Between fills turn truck on and cycle through gears (without driving
). Your truck will take around 12qts give or take 2qts either way. This will depend on the actual amount you are able to drain from the tranny and/or if you have an external tranny cooler of not.If you do not have the TC plug, then your next option will be to drain the entire tranny through the cooler lines. You will have to search here for more information on that, as I am not sure of the exact procedure.
