Transfer case rattle & Transmission thud
Transfer case rattle & Transmission thud
Sometimes when I hit a bump just the right way, I hear a rattling thud sound coming from the transfer case (right beneath the 4w4 shifter) that sounds as if something might be loose. It doesn't do it on all bumps, it just seems like if I hit them at the right angle and speed. I might hit a small bump and hear it, but then hit a bigger bump and not hear it. Also, when I am breaking and the tranny automatically shifts down through the gears, I hear a smiliar (if not the same sound) as it downshifts. I also hear a thud sometimes when downshifting after coasting, but I found a thread on this site from 2003 where someone explained the coast clutch, so I am pretty certain with that.
Anyway, I also called my dealership and they said there is a TSB about Teflon grease on the yoke or something that causes a "shudder" at light acceleration and breaking and seem to think without even hearing my problem that the yoke just needs regreased.
Does anyone else ever hear a similar noise from around the transfer case? Is this normal or should I make a big deal about it with the dealership (I bought the truck used form them but have the sales warranty). Could this maybe just be a bad transmission mount or something?
