OD in and out

01 F150 Supercab with 129K. Transmission had began shifting in and out of overdrive between 50 - 60 mph on an up hill grade, but only when the truck has been running after about an hour (and would stop shifting after 70mph). Yesterday, the same stuff except that it continued through 85mph (I live in Germany - and routinely drive between 70 & 85).

Fluid is changed regularly, and fluid is clean and not burnt - no metal flakes. Have had it to the shop - no codes - and of course it won't act up without being warm. Shop says it's ok....

Sound expensive to me, but I need my truck. Any ideas on what the problem is? Can I run the truck with the OD off without damaging it? Gas milage is going to take a hit of course.

Any ideas on what the cause is?
:santa:

After reading many of the posts today, I am leaning towards replacing the ignition coils and plugs - before going to a German garage. With this in mind -does anyone have a recommended parts outlet for F150 parts who will ship to an APO? Secondary to my overdrive issue is that the alternator is starting to chatter badly with onset of cooler weather and quiets down after 15 minutes of run-time. Has anyone else had this problem with the alternator?
