shift solenoid (P0755)

Have seen this posted in past, but the engine light just went on my '97 auto. 5.4 4x4. diagnostic showed shift solenoid B malfuntion. If anyone could help with a few questions:
Is this a dire fix, i have noticed no change at all is shifting or anything (other than the check engine light itself)?
Ballpark - how much to have it fixed at a garage?
What's the difference in solenoid A, B, C etc?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Ecpect to pay about $60-80 for the solenoid itself an hour of labor, plus a new filter and 5-7 quarts of merconV fluid. I would check the wiring harness first I have seen a couple of them melt at the exhaust and cause this code or similar codes.

Same problem

Am having the same problem. When replacing the solenoid are they all one unit or which one is "B"? front or rear. Should I get the part from Ford or is it available aftermarket? any info appreciated.

Thanks
