Well I fixed it and then I broke it...

I had the ABS warning light on the dash and decided to try the fix of replacing the sensor on top of the rear pumpkin. The fix worked like a champ (thanks again F150online forums). The problem now is that I broke the bolt off that holds the sensor in place.

I was putting it in and it started cross threading so I patiently pulled back out. I tried again...and again....and again...but now it wouldn't thread at all. So again I used that stuff called "patients" and took it over to a bench and checked the threads very carefully. I saw the threads that were messed up and regrooved them using a file. I got back under there and it started to thread ("gee, I am just plain good"), it started to cross thread again ("wait a minute...I bet I can keep going"), I continued to force it and it was slowly going in ("gee, I am the ma*POP*n.......ARRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!")

I thought about trying one of those tools for removing broken bolts but I'm afraid that it won't have enough "bite" to pull out a bolt that's been so badly cross threaded and torqued in there. So my question is...is the other end of that bolt sticking out inside the pumpkin? Is there enough room to get a pair of vise-grips in there to get the rest of that thing out or will the gears be in the way? If so this seems like an opportune time to change the rear diff fluid

Thanks,
bone

The bolt is doesn't go through the housing. If it did it would leak. You will have to remove the bolt. Eazy out etc.

yes like JMC said it does not go through the casing you will have to use a drill and use a bit to drill a pilot hole than you will need a extractor(ez out) bit to get the broken bolt out dont use the drill with the extractor use vise grips on it or a cresent wrench, then you will need to re tap the threads in the casing if you striped those, good luck
