Exclamation Manual Tranny, plug washer

I changed my Transmission fluid tonight and after I got done I realized that there was a metal washer in the bottom of my oil pan. It is a 5 speed in a 1999 f-150, so there are only 2 plugs I took out. I dont know weather it came from the drain plug or the fill plug. Does any one remember which plug has a washer. Thanks for looking. John

wow, I have 97 5 speed, and I didn't remember a washer on either one. That's not much help, but does it leak??

I've done this many times on the M5OD. Both drain and fill plugs have the soft aluminum, one-time-use crush washer.

A 99 M5OD will soon start leaking tran. fluid out of the three shift rail plugs (covers) on the top rear of the transmission. Keep an eye on your tranny for leaks and look in your garage/driveway for red spots. Search this forum for M5OD and read my procedure on changing them.

"one-time-use"? I've always reused them. I guess as long as it doesn't leak, it's OK to reuse (or not use?) . . .

there is a washer on each one. I took both of them off, to make sure. I did reuse the old ones, does not seem to be leaking now. Thanks for all the help.
