Rebuilt Ford Trannys

I recently bought a 97 F-150 4.6 with the 4R70W tranny. Recently the OD light started flashing and i took it back to the dealership and they said it was the OD siliniod they replaced that and it still had this problem. So i took it back again and they said the clutches in the tranny are wore out the truck only has 63000 miles. they are putting a new tranny in it its covered by a warrenty they said the new tranny would b 1 rebuild from ford i was wondering how dependable they are i use my truck to tow alot and to haul wood on. Since its covered by teh warrenty i guess i gotta take what im given regardless Just lookin for some1 wit some experience with Ford rebuilt trannies

I've had very few problems with the Ford remanufactured transmissions. I work at a Ford dealer and probably install about 30-40 units per year, and only occasionally will I get one back for warranty work. Make sure the in-line filter that comes with the reman is installed in the return cooler line. This will filter out any debris that may be left in the trans cooler after the lines are flushed out.

I've had mostly good results except for one case with reman Ford units, with a 4R100. The return cooler line fitting in the case was stripped out, leaking like a stuck pig. As Doc Dexron says, flushing the cooler and lines and installing the inline filter is imperative. A cooler flow test must be done as well, all that stuff is covered in the paperwork that comes with the trans when the tech installs it though.
