Cool Time to Change Trans Fluid???

My recently purchased 2001 F150 supercab turned 100,000 miles yesterday. I bought the truck with 93,000 miles. I immediately changed the oil the day after I bought it just so I could be sure that it was clean. I'm thinking I should go ahead and change the tranny fluid being that I just hit 100,000. What type of fluid is recommended? How much? Any tips?

What tranny?

The 4R100 (trans code door sticker of E) is Mercon
The 4R70w (trans code door sticker of U) is Mercon V

From 94 to 97 ford just used mercon in everything. 98+ 4R70Ws came stock with and are recommended to have Mercon V. At that time ford revised the 4R70w fluid requirements of older 4R70ws to use Mercon V. There is a friction modifier in Mercon V that Mercon does not have that the 4R70w likes.

Use Mercon V for the 4R70w.

Talking

Just finished changing my fluid. It went exceptionally well! All I did was follow the instructions on this website https://www.f150online.com/forums/li...ission_oil.htm
Thanks for all of the info! This is a great forum
