tranny issues
starting in second gear
heres the deal?
i started noticing shifting irregularities about 2 weeks ago during normal stop light to stop light driving. shifts seemed to be getting firmer and often more delayed. i got a second gear scratch when i normal don't get one without shifting manually. the other day i was sitting at the light and it felt like somebody bumping into my rear bumper ever so slightly several seconds after i had been stopped. appearently, it was first gear 'kicking in' because today i gave it gas at a light (lightly) and after i eased off the gas and the RPMs were coming back before it 'engaged'. i also downshifted into first gear this morning in the parking garage and the RPMs would not increase with wheel speed until i shifted into second then back to first. downshifting and shifting under heavy acceleration seem fine. are these symptoms of tail tail signs that something has its days are numbered or is something acting up? fluid level appears slightly above normal and i forgot to smell it. it was mistakenly flushed about 2 months ago. 2000 w/ 70k on it & i've pulled my car to the track on several occasions.
followup: i stopped by a transmission shop today & he suggested putting a scanner on it to make sure it's not getting any error codes. the truck has died a couple of times after starting & required me to increase the trottle in order to keep it from dying. scan's going to run $60. he quoted a rebuild could go up to $1600 (installed). on the way home, the truck has problems engaging first gear (regardless of manually shifting to first). felt like truck was taking off in second gear. a couple of times i could downshift into first at the light and it would upshift normally (as normal as i could tell)
thanks for your input.
