A toughy...

I have a '98 F150 4x4 with E4OD. It was recently rebuilt and the TC was replaced (300 miles ago). The transmission works and shifts fine until I get off the interstate. I can drive around town all day and it works great, but if I drive down the interstate and exit, it starts shifting too hard. The transmission shop says that the speed sensor on the transfer case is throwing a code, they've put on a used one and a brand new one including replacing the plastic gear. The transmission is still shifting hard. I have a Superchip in it as well. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this? It only happens when I drive down the Interstate and exit off, when driving around city street everything works great.

E4OD, its a 10/97 buid date. I think (could be wrong) but the first 98's were E4OD's and the later builds were a different transmission.

I'm not to familiar with the E4OD, but just an idea to try it without your superchip?

Could it be that the torque converter is not unlocking when getting off the interstate? Does an E4OD have a locking converter? I think it does but I am not sure. I would try it without the superchip as well. It sorta sounds like an electrical problem.

Good luck.

I told the shop to try it without the superchip. The torque converter is new, not rebuilt. They put a rebuilt one in, but it went out within 100 miles, so they put a new one in instead. According to the shop, their machine says its the speed sensor because the truck is actually going either 6-8 miles faster than the speed sensor is reading.

Edit: Also the wheels and tires are factory size and the ring & pinion are stock as well.
