tranny swap questions

for grins a giggles i thought it would be nice to have a granny gear 5spd in my 97 f150 4x4. just recently i have come across a 5spd granny out of a 99 f250 SD with a 5.4 v8. will the tranny bolt to my 4.6 v8 and everything else without a major headache. or would it be easier (and cheaper) to just install a dual stick transfer to get a low range in two wheel drive.

The Bellhousing pattern on the 4.6 is identical to the 5.4 and the 6.8 triton engines. The Flywheel and clutch disk and pressure plate are different. If you have an 8 bolt crank (Windsor Engine) you can simply get a 5.4 flywheel and clutch set for the SD and you are in buisness. If you have a Romeo you are SOL. You will also need the pilot bearing from the SD. There may be clearance issues in the tranny tunnel. The ZF tranny is taller than the M5OD. Your driveshaft will need to be adjusted to the new tranny. Tranny cross member will need to be modded and you will need to fab up an adapter to use your old T-case or get one from the SD.
