shutter while braking

Hey guys, got a question

When i brake harder than normal at about 40 mph, i get a shutter that feels like my tranny is trying to keep up with the downshifting.

Any advice will be appreciated.

First step is to check the rear brakes for problems, I just rebuilt my rear brakes and the shoes had broken up. I installed new shoes and drums (old were worn) New drums gave the shudder! turned out the new drums wer out of round!! Had them turned and now all is ok.

Warped rotors?

We had this problem in my girlfirend's Toyota corolla. I know its a fwd compact, but I'd look into the rotors and brakes first. I would think it wouldnt be the transmission, but I am unfamiliar with automatics. Good luck

i just had the entire back brake assembly rebuilt, so it could be the new drums.. and it feels different from rotor pedal shake...
