Question Transmission Leak

Hello everyone, had a question I hope someone can address. I have a 2001 supercrew 4X4 Offroad, and changed my transmission fluid in the pan only. Before doing this the undercarriage of my truck was bone dry, since then I have developed a leak that is dripping from the rubber cap covering the access to the torqe converter drain plug. I have looked everywhere for the leak, it is not comeing from the pan, nor the torqe converter drain plug.

It has been leaking for about 4 weeks leaving a spot on the ground whenever it is sitting on level ground, or a down slope, but no leak when parked on a up slope. the dip stick is still reading full (hot) after a drive, so I am thinking it had to have been overfull which I cant understand as I added the ammount the owners manual stated for the pan only. Could this have led to my problem. any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like your front pump seal is starting to leak. That happens occasionally after changing out the fluid. You could try an additive to stop the leak, but most likely you will have to reseal the front pump.

Why would changing fluid cause a front pump seal to leak?

I thought that they started to leak because the front pump Bushing was worn and I thought that the front pump Bushings wore because the rear main bearing in the engine was getting worn and letting the Converter drop down. This also lets engine oil out.

Please let me know if I am wrong.

I have two fords doing this leaking thing and would like to know before I tear in to them.

The new transmission fluid washes away varnish buildup and occasionally will cause a leak, particularly on a unit that hasn't been serviced regularly.

Is it trans fluid or engine oil??? Sounds like the notorius head gasket oil leak to me. If you only changed the fluid in the pan you would not dilute the contents enough to cause a problem. Sounds as though iy may just be a coincedance and actualy a head gasket oil leak, see what the fluid looks like and see if you see iy up on the starter. Get a can of brake parts cleaner and clean up the are so you can determine where the oil is coming from. Good luck!!!!
