i have a 97 f 150 with a consol switch for the 4 wheel drive and some times i have a hard time getting my truck to go into 4 wheel. I turn it to 4 high and here like a click in the dash but no light comes on and the 4 wheel doesnt engage (same with 4 low) but sometime i can restart the truck, put in N and shift to 4 low the to high and it works. any advise

 

I'm interested as well. I have a 97 Expy, and my 4wd switch doesn't work at all now. It happened once before, but resolved itself after a high pressure blast to the undercarriage. I can't get any clicks, lights, etc. at all. Although after playing with it for a while this last weekend, the A4WD light came on (doesn't mean it will engage though), but now I get nothing.

 

Hmmm, could be the switch, any one of the relays that control the ESOF, or the shift motor itself. BTW, to get to four low, you need to be in neutral with your foot on the brake.
