Smooth or Hard

I read several threads recently that suggest a smooth shifting auto tranny is not a desired option, rather one that shifts hard and quickly. In all three of our F-150’s the auto transmission shift exceptionally smooth, almost imperceptible. Given the trend in the threads towards “hard” shifting auto trannys, is there a latent failure issue with those that shift smoothly?

No, there isn't. The newer transmissions are controlled by a computer that can shift smoothly without giving up any life.

Thanks. I was concerned about the reliability of smooth shifting auto transmission and was thinking I should install some shift kit. It just one thing less to do. Again, thanks.
