Part found in Trans. Pan

Did a service and found a 1 1/2" long plastic plunger with a small shaft that has a hollowpoint tip and an O ring. The #351 over the #8 inside the hollowpoint. It seems to shift and function fine. Any ideas as to what the heck this is & should I be worried?
I have a pic. if i could figure out how to insert it, it may make it easier.

Don't worry. What you found sounds like the plug that is pushed into the tranny pan when the didpstick is installed.

Good luck

According to Ford it is a dust plug that is put in at the factory during assembly. When the Dipstick is put in in goes into the pan. Before I found this website I searched for an hour to find out what it was for. Simply put, throw it out and don't worry about it.

Oh no you removed the plug? It has to lay in the bottom of the pan or the trans will EXPLODE
It's just a shipping plug to prevent fluid from coming out or debris from entering the transmission from ford. When they install the dipstick they just knock it in and it lays in the pan. Don't worry about it

If your truck is still under warranty, leave that plug lying in the pan. It's the first thing a tech will look for if you have warranty transmission issues. If it's not there, they know you have had the pan off and will deny warranty.

When a transmission is serviced and the filter is changed, it is not only common practice but common sense to remove the dust plug.

If your truck is due or passed it's normal service date, it is expected that the plug was removed from the pan during service.

If you took it out, you performed the maintenance correctly.

Chief out

FWIW, that would be a violation of consumer protection laws and of the warranty contract between the manufacturer and purchaser. Manufacturers cannot deny warranty merely on the basis of "unauthorized" internal inspection or repair. The burden of proof is on the manufacturer to prove that any such work created or contributed to the damage for which the purchaser is demanding remedy. Dealers who tell you otherwise are looking for an excuse to avoid responsibility.

One On Ford

Place the part in an envelope and send to Ford Inc. and state the part fell out of the cubby box.
