Question: AOD flexplate on e4od (e40d) tranny.

Hi All,

I've rebuild the 302 engine recently. And (don't ask why) install AOD flexplate instead of e4od one .
Local parts store already having the right one coming my way (they even going to take old one back, though it's totaly my fault). And I'm ready to pull engine again.
Here's my question(s):

1. I ran my rebuild engine with wrong flexplate for about 30-40 miles. Except bad vibration in 1000-1500 rpm range and lack of power (probably due to knock sensor), I didn't have any REALLY bad feelings. Does it mean that my torque converter/whole transmission still OK??? AFAIK, e4od flexplate pushing TC towards the transmission in about 1/4" deeper than AOD , right? So, AOD flexplate should not really damage anything, right? I guess I'm just trying to calm myself :o

2. What would be easier: remove engine (that i know how to do) or remove e4od to get to the flexplate?

Thanks in advance!

You can use c6 or e40d flexplates on a e40d they are the same. aod flexplates are the same as 4r70w ones provided the balance is the same.
That should have pulled the converter too far out of the transmission I suggest looking at the hub and pump carefully. Also inspect your crank pilot for damage as your vibration was caused by it not fitting correctly there.

normally it would be easier to pull the tranny, but the e4od is a very heavy tranny, so it would be your preference

Update:

Well,

I pulled it out. There are no visible damages either on TC or on the end of the crankshaft. I guess I'll just put new one in and hope for the best.

Is it possible that weight on AOD flexplate is different from weight of C6/e4od plate?

I thought it was same 50 oz. on both.

They weight goes with the motor. If they are both 5.0's they will both have the same weight, unless you get an early 28 gram weighted flexplate.
