Transmission fluid change question

I have a 1997 taurus, 3.0, 60,000 miles.

I dropped the pan and changed the filter and 5 qts. of fluid at 30,000 miles.
Now I'm at 60,000 and looking at doing it again.

The dealership charges $170+ to do a total flush. Is this needed? I have never done it in any vehicles that I have.

I realize that your not getting all the fluid but I was wondering if just changing what I can get too will be ok.

Am I right in saying the transmission will only take 5 qts if I just drop the pan?

Thanks

brian

The dealership that did my "flush" at 30000 miles was exactly that. They just flushed in new fluid and did not change the filter. He stated the filter should be done around 60000?

IMO, if you change your tranny fluid regularly then you should be fine.

If you did alot of towing or mountain driving you might want to consider it, other wise I would just service it and call it good.
