They are completely different tranny. The 4r70w is the light duty version and has 14 pan bolts also it roots from fmx transmissions. The e40d is massive, has 20 pan bolts and roots from c6 transmissions.

Hi again and thanks...I also have another couple questions...Is this transmission normally used in f250's and also , the transmission cooler that comes stock with the truck ( with the trailer tow pkg) usually good enough for towing...I have a 25' travel trailer to tow , approx 6700 lbs...Thanks again..Grocer for life

AFAIK 250's are only available with the larger trans the 4r70w is the 150 series trans. Like anything their are probably exceptions to the rule but I have never seen one.

I've got a '97 F250 LD (before they called them 7700s) with the E4OD too...Alan's on the money, 150s have the 4R70W, E4ODs are pretty much mostly seen in 250/7700s, Superduties, Navigators and some Expeditions.

I've got a '97 F150 with the e4od (trans code E). GVWR is only #6250. I tow a #4500 travel trailer with the stock cooler and it'll run 180* in the summer.
