Can we swap in T5's in place of our manual trannys?

Im pretty sure my tranny just took a dump and want ANYTHING stronger. Are we able to swap in anything else? I dont care if it requires shortening/lengthening the driveshaft or making a new crossmember I just need to know if it will bolt up to the bellhousing (or if there are any kind of adaptor plates available) and if the clutch situation will work out.
Thanks a lot

Oh yeah I have a 98 with a 4.6 and a 5spd

You will be starting a huge project with changing all that crap under there. Even worse with a 4x4. The ZF5 would be my choice with a tough replacement.

Next point...

What the heck did you do to trash a M5OD? We have had 6 different trucks with them, and even in the 97 I have pulled trailers that would overload my diesel, and that tranny is still shiftin smooth at almost 100k. Heck even if it would go soon, I would still swap in another M5OD.

Your thoughts,

You are NOT gonna believe this!!

We took out the old trans and took it apart. The first thing that we noticed was that the gears we all chewed up. Than we noticed that TWO BOLTS in the trans had backed themselves out completely and basically destroyed the internals of the trans. Not only that but two more bolts were on their way out but we blocked by two gears. Anyway I bought a new trans and clutch (figured mine as well) a slave cylinder throw out bearing and input shaft seal. Everything is in and the trans runs better than when I bought the truck about two years ago. I knew the previous owner and think that it may have been dew to all the wheel hop and burnouts. Not really sure though. Atleast I didnt do it...
