Question Transgo Shift Kit Problem

Just finished test driving the truck after installing Transgo shift kit in my 4R70W. After getting everything warmed up good, the truck is bogging badly! It appears that the torque converter is locking up at around 1400 rpm. From a stop or slow roll, the RPM starts to climb quickly until a little over 1200 then it bogs and slowly climbs. Once it gets up into the power band it really takes off and feels great. The 1-2 shift is awesome. I drilled out the hole about .009" bigger. I didn't want the 2-3 shift very aggresive so I left the 8th ball in place and drilled out the hole about .006". This was all per Transgo's tech line help (VERY Informative!! ) The check engine light is on and I double checked everything very carefully, but I must have missed something? Any ideas?

Can't help you on this one. The only place I would put a transgo is in the trash. The best advice I can give you is to try to completely un do everything you have done. If it had you drill holes in the valvebody itself you're screwed.

I need constructive help on what is wrong, not take it out. If take it out was the solution, I would not have installed it in the first place. Does anybody know what I could have done wrong?

The only thing I can say is to go back and double check everything you have done during the install. Maybe a check ball, gasket, or electrical plug connection is out of place.

Good luck.

all of the check ***** are in the same places as they were before? did you clean out the valvebody with some brake cleaner before reinstalling? you did use mercon v fluid right? not regular mercon.
all of the wires were reconected properly?(i'm thinking this might be most likely)
does the transgo kit require some of the accumulator springs and pistons in the transmission to be replaced?
i'm not familiar with the transgo kits but i did install a b&m kit in my 4r70w about a year ago. the only problem i had with my install was that my shift linkage was out of wack after i was all done. i never have gotten around to fixing it yet.

If you had done some homework you would have found that many believe that kit to actually be destructive to these transmissions.

When it rains it pours. Tried to go to work this morning and the battery was dead. Talk about bad luck! First all of these rear end problems, then I make a mistake somewhere installing the shift kit, and now a dead battery. Oh well, it should be good for another 100K by the time I'm done! I was very careful on reconnecting the electrical connections and I'm not getting any error codes, so I probably made a mechanical error somewhere. I'll call Transgo in the morning. There tech support is very knowledgible. Hope fully it is something simple. I'll pick up a new set of gaskets from the Ford dealer while I'm at it. The Transgo kit has you reuse one on the existing gaskets and I've never been to keen on reusing gaskets, unless they are specifically designed to be reused.

Sort of having the same issue since last night and i Too have a transgo kit in my tranny on my 98 F150. Heavy rains here for the last couple of days and suddenly it began last night after towing a trailer (i am in process of moving) for 30 miles or so. A few weeks back when it was hot and dry the converter would not unlock and would stall the engine at idle. It mysteriously corrected itself... i am leaning toward a sensor causing the erratic behavior now...

current symptoms are excessive slippage when accelerating from a dead stop, converter will not lock up.. until about 1500 - 2000 rpm... BUT if i manually force into low and momentarily from a stop sign, etc it is fine... it is hot and sunny today so we'll let it dry out and see how things go... then we'll go from there...

Transgo kit has not given me any issues otherwise and my truck has nearly 200,000 miles on it... 25K with the transgo kit and it's towed a few boats, non stop for 15 hours across the mountains without an issue...

if you have just installed the kit and start getting error lights make sure the plastic wiring harness is firmly seated in the connectors on the bottm of the valve body. Or that you did not crack it when removing it etc...
