E40D fluid change

Hi fella's, getting ready to change the fluid on my 95 4X4. I have the E40D trans. but need some insight to a couple of things I found odd. First, the truck has 67K miles and I don't know if the fluid has or has not been changed. The pan has a cork gasket right now, I was under the assumption that E40Ds all had reusable rubber gaskets, if that true then I would assume that it's been changed at least once before. Also I have an orange "do not service" tag on the pan. It says basically, that my truck through an exchange program has a 94 trans. in it. There is also a TSB 94-16 on the tag. I know what TSBs are and have done a seach but found nothing. The fluid looks and smells good so i'm going to press on. Is there a pan available from Ford that has a drain plug, if there is I would like to swap that while I'm under there. Plan on using Valvoline mercon fluid, new filter, and new pan gasket, possibly a new pan with drain plug if available. My manual says 16 qts. Anything else I need to know. Thanks.

I've done mine several times now and everytime I say to myself... "I should install a drain plug!" (you'll want a really wide catch basin)... but never do. If your just draining and filling you don't need 16 qts. My '97 E4OD with a drain plug in the torque conv. took ~ 13 qts.

have fun!
