Beat Tranny

I got a 1990 Ford F-150 with the five speed . My problem is this, it leaks from the rear main seal, i had the yolk of the driveshaft fixed b/c that was leaking also and thats leaking now again.. this truck has cost me so much $$$...What should i do, should i get it looked at again and see what wrong with my five speed, or should i pull a 4 speed outta another six and see what happens,or just get another tranny> I'm unsure of what to do the tranny in it now leaks and you can hear the bearings in 2nd gear, its shifts into 2nd roughly when you first run it, Im just having a lot of problems with this and i'm a newbie who wants to learn all that i can..any feedback would be great

Find a good T-18, have it looked at by a reputable trans place. They're almost bulletproof.

If you mean the rear transmission seal is leaking after just being replaced, the problem is likely the bushing at the back of the transmission being worn if it too was not replaced. It can cause a vibration and a leak from the yoke beating on the oil seal over time. I don't know how hard it is to change one on these trannys but a trans shop should be able to do it reasonably cheap I would think. I could be wrong about the reasonably cheap part.

Unhappy

Hey Moonen and VWtrucker, thanks for the responses i talked to the tranny shop that had just fixed the yolk of the driveshaft and some other stuff, and they said that the gears are really worn, and that my tranny is toast, so it looks like i'm going to have to replace it, so im in the process of finding one...i crawled under my truck today to check the oil in it and i looked at the side of it and it said E9TA, is that the type of trans it is? if someone could give some good suggestions about what trans to get that would be cool too...thanks

A Ford Taurus I once owned lost the trans and I went with a rebuilt Jasper unit, OEM standards. Jasper gave me a 75,000 mile unlimited time warranty.

MUCH better than ANY rebuild shop.
