1992 F-150 unsmooth driving after put into drive
I've got a 1992 F-150 with automatic transmission (4 sp).
Here's basicly what happens: sometimes (not always) right after you put it in drive it seems it takes an unusual amount of gas to get it going, then it will kind of rock forward for a few minutes until you get going a bit faster, but after a couple of minutes it drives normal and smooth. You can stop completely then go, and it's fine, or stop and put it in park then back in drive and it's fine. It does this (gets lurchy on the start) when it's been sitting for a couple of hours (like parked in the drive or a parking lot). But like I said drives normal after a few minutes of operation. I've been told various things about this from friends, one I need to change the transmission oil and filter and the other is the torque converter may need to be replaced. Any ideas or comments would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks for your time.

When was the last time you checked the fluid level or changed the filter in the transmission. Sounds to me like it is starving for fluid. That is just a guess though. Could be several things but that's where I would start.
