downshift clunk

Greetings folks,
I'm wondering what would cause a clunk when my truck shifts from 2 to 1. It's a '99 150 with the AR70W tranny. It seems to make the noise when slowing down quickly,, rather than when coming to a slow stop. Also, it doesn't seem as noticable when I turn off the OD. It's got 120K miles on it and is in otherwise great shape. Would a fluid change possibly make any difference? It doesn't look brown or dirty, and from all appearances the truck seems to have been well cared for. I just bought it a few weeks ago and I'm working at getting any problems sorted out.
Thanks for any help,
Kevin
