I have a 98 F-150 4.6 4x4. When I go to shift the transfer case into 4 wheel drive, nothing happens. I took the electric shift motor off the transfer case and watched it as we cycled the shift **** from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. It only moved about 25 degrees instead of the full range of motion needed to engage the transfer case into 4 wheel drive. I cycled the **** on the transfer case by hand so I know that works.
My question is will I probably have to replace the whole motor and gear housing on that shift mechanism or is there some other test I can do to free it up?
