Question Squeek in reverse

I have 97, 4.6, 4x4. w/ 148.000 miles and have a loud squeaking noise when in reverse. If I let the truck roll back, without reverse engaged, there is no noise, only when in gear is the noise present. It seems to be coming from the center of the truck, not the rear diff.

The truck runs fine. No problems to speak of in terms of tranny problems, just the noise.

Any ideas on what the problem is and a remedy would be appreciated.

I'm not really sure what your problems is. I'd check the u-joints and such and if that doesn't do it you may have a damaged intermediate roller clutch.

Definetly the U-joints. Had this problem with our 92 work truck. Kinda annoying but never did fix it. Instead just traded it off on a new 04 because it needed alot of TLC.
