Question Overdrive to 3rd Thud and Shake

Hi!

I have been lurking here for months and finally bought a 2000 F150 Supercab 4X4 4.6L. It was a great experience.

I have one problem I cannot solve. I had transmission shutter, but though a lot of reading I found out about and did the 13 quart fluid change with Mercon V.

The truck shifts great, except when coming out of overdrive into 3rd. I get a bump or thud. It's enough to feel in the steering wheel and sometimes it will rattle small things in the glove box or console.

Any help would be appreciated. I am not fearful of any auto repair, but I am lost as to where to start.

Again this has been a great resource and I hope to contribute as my time as a F150 owner goes along.

I added a picture of my truck to the gallery. I will expand it as time and adventures permit.

Fixed! With a shim.

After some research I fixed the clunk with a shim on the 3-4 shift valve spring.

Details and some pictures at my site:

I love the truck. We took it on a 70 mile treck today and it performed well.

So do you like the truck? Looks good to me, glad you got it figured out. I think I am saving up to get one with a 4.6 for my first vehicle, certainly better than a car I think, plus rear wheel drive is fun.
And if you don't mind my asking how much did she cost you?

Smile Excellent Truck

We love the truck. The wife, daughter, beagle and myself all enjoy it.

Taxes fees and all it totaled about $12K. It was a little more than I had budgeted, but the truck has every option under the sun. Leather-power pedals-power seats-6 disc CD changer-autolamp-bed cover-4 doors-4X4-new tires-17" chrome rims. Some friends of mine at B&R Autobrokers found the truck for me. It took about 8 weeks to find the right truck.
